Mattituck-Laurel: Library sponsors end-of-summer hot dog picnic Aug. 17

Rainy summer Sundays bring a sense of tranquility that we rarely have on the North Fork during the sun and surf season. Hope you had a good book, good friends and time for a nice nap!

The sun was shining brightly for Arline and Joe Wiederman as they celebrated their wedding this past Saturday. The couple exchanged vows and then headed to Brecknock Hall, where they shared their joy with family and friends. Congratulations! May the years ahead be full of love and laughter.

Sweet 16 parties are another reason to celebrate and Sara Perkins’ happy occasion was celebrated with a surprise party in her honor. Sara’s friends and family enjoyed her party swimming and playing volleyball despite showers here and there. Happy birthday!

Also blowing out candles this week are Emma Chylinski and Kevin Collins (the cutest little boy I know), who turns 2, Aug. 11; Donna Kowalsick and David Berry on the 13th; Don Feiler, Jim Murphy and Mary Trentalange on the 14th; Antonia Quintieri on the 16th; and Brandon Gholson and Jackie Papadopoulos on the 17th. Belated birthday wishes go to Connor Anderson, who turned 15 on Aug. 10, and Sandy Pufahl, who cut her cake last weekend.

The Friends of Mattituck-Laurel Library will once again sponsor an end-of-summer hot dog picnic on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at noon. The picnic follows a family event featuring the Crabgrass Puppet Theater Family Show scheduled for 11 a,m. No registration is necessary. If you have any questions call the circulation desk at 298-4134. On the same day, after the show and picnic, the Friends will hold a book sale from 3 to 6 p.m. Music, videos, books and games will be available at bargain prices. It’s a great way to pick up some summer reading before the season ends. Drop by and see what treasures await!

If you haven’t seen this year’s summer youth production at North Fork Community Theatre, this weekend is your last chance. Final performances of “Footloose” will be Friday and Saturday, Aug. 12 and 13, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 14, at 2:30 p.m. For tickets call 298-NFCT.

Being married for 50 years is definitely something to celebrate. Sharon and Dick Brooks did just that last weekend, surrounded by their family at a special dinner in their honor at Laurel Links. Sharon and Dick officially toast their years together on Aug. 12. Congratulations!
