Police continue to investigate a series of thefts of copper metal piping from a Mattituck business. The first occurred on Aug. 7, but there were three additional incidents on Aug. 16, 19 and 21. In the most recent, the owner called police at 10 p.m. to report two men in the process of stealing copper piping. The police canine unit responded, but was unable to locate any suspects. Police are studying video recordings of the thefts.

• Amanda Sharkey, 27, of Riverhead was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated after she was stopped on Route 48 in Mattituck at 2:08 a.m. Sunday, police said. The aggravated DWI charge resulted from police discovering that Ms. Sharkey had a previous DWI conviction and her license was revoked, according to reports. She was held for arraignment.

• A Peconic man was charged with DWI just before 3:30 a.m. Thursday after police received a call about a vehicle heading the wrong way in oncoming traffic on Depot Lane in Cutchogue. When police stopped John Moore, 43, he reportedly had an open beer can in his car and alcohol on his breath. He was taken to headquarters and charged with DWI, an open container violation and several other vehicle and traffic infractions. He was held for a morning arraignment. Police also said Mr. Moore’s vehicle was seized due to a prior DWI.

• Robert Aleksander, 55, of Cutchogue was charged with DWI and third-degree unlicensed operation of a vehicle after he was stopped in Cutchogue at 3:44 p.m. Saturday, police said. Police said they knew Mr. Aleksander, who was eastbound on Sterling Road, had his license suspended. When an officer pulled him over he was found to be intoxicated, police said. His vehicle was towed from the scene because the registration had expired and he had no insurance, according to reports.

• Southold police charged Donald D. Franklin, 50, of Islip Terrace with DWI just after 9 p.m. on Aug. 17, after he was stopped for failing to maintain his lane of travel on Route 48 in Southold. Police said Mr. Franklin was taken to headquarters, processed and held overnight for arraignment.

• Patricia Graver, 44, of Northport was charged with DWI after being stopped on Main Street in Greenport at 6:09 p.m. Tuesday. She was held overnight for arraignment.

• Mariusz Pawelski, 28, of Mattituck was stopped on New Suffolk Road in Cutchogue at 8:49 p.m. Sunday and charged with DWI. He was held for arraignment.

• William Kelly, 71, of Southold was charged with DWI after he was observed driving on the shoulder of Route 25 in Southold at 11:51 a.m. last Thursday. He was held overnight for arraignment.

• A resident of Brown Street in Greenport reported the theft of a motorcycle from his property on Aug. 17. The incident remains under investigation.

• Three Fifth Street, Greenport, residents recently reported their vehicles’ tires had been slashed. No arrests have been made.

• An Orient farmer reported at 9:12 a.m. Friday that a corn gun used to frighten birds and the propane tank used to run it were missing from his Route 25 property.

• Suffolk County Police recovered two 60 mm shells that a resident of Washington Avenue, Greenport, reported finding in her garage. Town police asked for the county’s special services unit to handle the ordnance.

• A resident of Cat Alley, Southold, reported to police Saturday night that computer hardware and software valued at $700 was missing from her home.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
