Sailboat capsizes, Southold Police rescue two from the bay

Two Southold residents reported overdue from an afternoon sail Monday were found floating in Hogs Neck Bay in Southold about a mile and a half from shore, police said. Both were unharmed.

Responding to a call from Kathleen Goggins that her children hadn’t returned when expected, town police and bay constables took to the water where they  spotted Rebekah Desimone, 20, and Tim Desimone, 24, floating and waving their arms. The two said their sunfish had taken on water and capsized. Rather than stay with the boat they decided to swim to shore, according to police.

Both refused medical attention after being taken on board. Police brought the two and their boat back to shore.
