Vera-Jean Clark-Brown

Mattituck resident Vera-Jean Clark-Brown, known to family and friends as VJ, died July 20 at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport after a long illness. She was 58.

She was born May 21, 1953, in Westfield, Mass., to Howard and Doris Clark. After graduating from Quinnipiac College, she moved to Long Island.

Ms. Clark-Brown was an occupational therapist and educator and worked for a while at ELIH. She helped start and then chaired the occupational therapy programs at Touro College and Stony Brook University. She served for 10 years on the New York State Department of Education licensing board for occupational therapy, including one year as chair. In 2008, she earned a doctorate in education from Teachers College – Columbia University: Graduate School of Education.

Ms. Clark-Brown was a very active member of Greenport Rotary Club for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; her mother; her daughters, Hilary and Cassandra; her stepdaughter, Nicole; and her brother, William.

Visiting hours took place July 22 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.

Donations may be made to the American Occupational Therapy Foundation scholarship program or to Touro College or Stony Brook University for scholarship funds for O.T. students.
