A list of Sept. 11 anniversary events on the North Fork

Here is a list of local events that will take place on Sunday to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks:

FRIDAY

8:30 a.m.

Oysterponds Elementary School will have a short memorial service in front of the school.

9 a.m.

Greenport School will have a short memorial service involving members of the ROTC unit, American Legion reps from both
Greenport and Southold, firefighters, police, first responders.

The public will be invited to speak if they wish.

The flag will be raised and then lowered to half mast.

SUNDAY

9:15 a.m.

Southold Town’s memorial service. People are being asked to gather at the recreation center on Peconic Lane and then walk to
nearby Jean Cochran Park for the ceremony at the site of the Morning Call osprey sculpture that was installed there last Thursday.

The sculpture sits atop an I-beam from the 33rd floor of the WTC’s north tower.

11:15 a.m.

Orient Congregational Church will dedicate its Peace Garden and a peace pole that carries the message, “Let Peace Prevail on
Earth” in eight different languages.

4 p.m.

Mitchell Park in Greenport various members of the clergy will hold an interfaith service to memorialize 9/11 with members of the
police and fire departments.

7 p.m.

A nondenominational prayer service in remembrance of the World Trade Center attacks will be held at our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Mattituck. All are invited. For more information call 298-8094.
