Mattituck-Laurel: Blessing of the Animals at Our Lady of Good Counsel Oct. 2

There is no gift more precious than the birth of a child and Chrissy and Ryan Wilsberg received that small treasure last week. Jayden Ryan Wilsberg entered the world at Southampton Hospital on Sept. 19 at 6:59 p.m. He weighed a healthy 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. Jayden was embraced with love by his grandparents, Gary and Nancy Spath and Donna and Paul Wilsberg. May God bless Jayden today and always!

Celebrating their birthdays this week are Taylor LaRosa, who cuts her cake at Connecticut College Sept. 29; Dick Brooks, Lisa Rizzo and Kathryn Rosnack on Oct. 1; Chuck Timpone, Suzie Smith and Maria Montgomery on the 2nd; Maria Brisotti and Margot Kobus on the 3rd; and Mackenzie Hughes on the 5th.

The Mattituck-Cutchogue Booster Club is embarking on an exciting new fundraiser. The club will construct an alumni brick garden on the west side of the high school gymnasium. The bricks will be engraved with the names of past and future MHS graduates and all money raised will benefit the school’s athletes. To purchase a brick or inquire about the program, contact any Booster Club member or call Joe Doorhy at 631-445-5526. Each brick can also have a symbol engraved. This would make for a perfect holiday gift for the person who has everything!

The PTSA Yankee Candle sale has ended and if you haven’t paid up yet, you have until Monday, Oct. 3 to do so.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Church was packed with well-wishers last Sunday to celebrate Sister Anne Lynch’s 50th Jubilee Mass. At the reception afterward, Sister Anne was presented with a scrapbook of wishes created by those who wanted to say thank you for all she does for the parish, our families and our children. God bless you, Sister Anne!

Speaking of Our Lady of Good Counsel, don’t forget to bring your pets to the Blessing of the Animals on the church front lawn on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 1:30 p.m. Please contact Nancy Deegan at 298-8304 or [email protected] so they’ll know how many are coming.

The Conlin family reports that the summer collection of recycled “Cell Phones for Soldiers” has yielded another 100 calling cards for soldiers and military families! Bravo for our community efforts. Please continue to keep those old cell phones coming — especially for the holiday season. The red collection boxes remain in the post office. Donate today and give our military families the best holiday gift ever: a chance to hear the voices of their loved ones.

A special birthday wish to Evelyn Raynor, who will celebrate on a Caribbean Princess cruise to Canada and New England.
