Mattituck-Laurel Library budget approved

Mattituck-Laurel Library District voters gave overwhelming support Tuesday, 93 to 17, to a 2012 budget of $1.249 million that increases spending by $35,409.

An average homeowner with property assessed at $8,000 will pay an additional $14.64 next year, said library director Kay Zegel. The current tax rate is $49.74 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Much of the increase covers rising costs for fuel oil, health and liability insurance, according to Ms. Zegel. The library will spend more on staffing, up from $786,826 to $813,263, most resulting from higher health insurance costs, she said.

“We’re just happy to have such an overwhelmingly large show of support,” the director said.
