Community invited to discuss town budget next Thursday

Southold Town will hold a community discussion on budgeting next Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall meeting room.

The meeting will include an explanation of the newly imposed 2 percent property tax cap and how it affects the town’s budgeting process, as well as the town’s policies regarding the use of fund balances and a discussion of costs and revenues.

“This is separate and distinct from the budget hearing,” said Town Attorney Martin Finnegan at Tuesday’s Town Board work session. “This is a learning process.”

“If people have comment, we will listen, but this is a very informal discussion on the process,” added Town Supervisor Scott Russell.
