Dr. John E. Kelly

Dr. John E. Kelly of Mattituck died Sept. 10 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 78.

He was born March 5, 1933, in Rockville Centre to Peter and Eileen Kelly and lived for some years in Freeport. Dr. Kelly was an internist.

He enjoyed fishing, reading and woodworking, family members said.

He is survived by his wife, Alice (née Schneider), of Mattituck; his sons, Peter, of Levittown, and Kevin, of Ocean Beach; his daughters, Mary Kelly and Dr. Eileen Kelly, both of North Babylon; and two grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A service will take place Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Mattituck, followed by interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue.
