LIPA Update: Fewer than 800 customers still affected by outages

Slightly less than 800 customers remain affected by power outages in Southold Town, nearly a week after Tropical Storm Irene swept across the North Fork, according to the latest numbers released by the Long Island Power Authority.

Nearly half the affected customers are in Mattituck, where 377 outages have not yet been restored, a number that has even grown slightly since yesterday. LIPA had said it would plan for some intentional outages as it restored others.

The number of outages in Laurel has grown from 10 yesterday morning to 22 today.

Another 139 outages remain in Southold hamlet, which had been hit the hardest, and 138 more outages are active in Peconic.

While LIPA has begun estimating restoration times on its website again, no times have been indicated yet for the North Fork.

Here are the most recent outage totals for the North Fork:

Mattituck — 377

Southold — 139

Peconic — 138

Greenport West — 63

Cutchogue — 29

Orient Point — 27

Laurel — 22
