Southold judicial primary results to be reviewed next week

Based on Election Night figures, Incumbent Southold Town Justice Rudolph Bruer easily dispatched his Democratic line opponent in two minor party primaries, but the results won’t be certified until some time next week.

As is standard practice, the Suffolk County Board of Elections will begin its review of the results of those elections and others throughout the county on Monday. The recanvas, as it’s called, will start with a review of the paper ballots fed into the electronic voting machines that replaced the old mechanical devices last year.

A glitch in the electronic count delayed the posting of thenumbers in the Southold Conservative and Independence Party judicial primaries until Wednesday. The as-yet unofficial results show Mr. Bruer, a Republican, beating Brian Hughes, a Republican running with Democratic support,  123 to 25, 83 percent to 17 percent, in the Conservative race. In the Independence primary, the incumbent apparently won by a similar margin, 74 to 18, or 80 percent to 20 percent.
