Southold man charged with driving under the influence of drugs

A 23-year-old Southold man found sleeping in his vehicle on Oregon Road in Mattituck Thursday evening was arrested for driving with his ability impaired by drugs, town police said.

Responding to a report of a man sleeping in his car on Oregon Road at 7:44 p.m., an officer found Michael E. Lafreniere behind the wheel in an impaired state, according to reports. Police said he failed several field sobriety tests and was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital for a blood test, after which he was taken to headquarters for processing and held for arraignment.

Mr. Lafreniere was additionally charged with driving an uninspected vehicle without a front license plate on tires with inadequate tread, police reported.
