The Greenport/Shelter Island boys soccer team heads on the road this afternoon to face the unbeaten Port Jefferson Royals in a League VIII match. The Royals are 4-0 in league and 6-1 overall.

It’ll be a big test for the Porters, who are looking to build on a strong start to the league season. In four games the Porters have two wins, one draw and a loss. Overall they’re 2-5-1.

It’s a bunched up division at the start. Three teams — Pierson, Smithtown Christian and Southold — each have two losses in league. Only Ross and The Stony Brook School are winless.

The Porters come into the match off a 3-1 loss against Pierson Monday. In their previous win against Smithtown Christian, Erick Ramirez scored both of the Porters’ goals in a 2-1 victory.

Game time at Port Jefferson today is 4:30 p.m.

Both other local boys soccer teams are in action as well. Mattituck (6-2) will play a 7 p.m. game at Hampton Bays (3-4) in League VII. And Southold (4-4-1) in League VIII will travel to The Stony Brook School (0-6).
