What do you do after you’ve spent more than four years planning and overseeing an $8 million renovation project that just wrapped up last year? If you’re Priscilla DeMasi, administrator of San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Greenport, you don’t rest on your laurels.

Ms. DeMasi and her staff and volunteers have now launched a project to beautify the exterior of the facility’s adult day care center, creating a Tribute Garden in the courtyard there. The day care center sits at the rear of the sprawling San Simeon building on Route 48.

With money exhausted in constructing the day care center and renovating much of the rest of San Simeon building, the next phase, outdoor beautification, has to pay for itself, Ms. DeMasi said. That’s why San Simeon is reaching out to the community and asking people to donate money for memorial bricks. The bricks can be engraved in tribute of a lost loved one or to congratulate a family member on a significant milestone.

“The tribute garden and courtyard is a continuation of our renovation project, enabling more outdoor space for our residents to enjoy,” Ms. DeMasi said.  “The more tribute bricks San Simeon gets, the grander our tribute garden will be.”

Those interested in purchasing bricks should call Andrea Parks at 477-2110 ext, 252. Prices range from $100 to $300 depending on the size and inscription on the brick.
