Greenport: Homecoming celebrated, Senior Night coming up

Yes, Mr. Morris, I’m going to start off by complaining about the weather. Someone needs to turn the heat back on — and I’m not talking about the kind of heat you have to pay for. Brrr! It’s cold out there!

Spirit week at Greenport High School, leading up to homecoming weekend, was a huge success this year. The highlight of the festivities was the coronation and presentation of the queen, king and their court. Homecoming queen this year was Brianna Van Tuyl, escorted by king Tré McKnight. Senior attendants were Dinesha Pendergrass and Durell Lawrence. Representing the juniors were Kim Bracken and Jesus Duran. The sophomores chose Stephanie Wright and Codey Fisher to represent them and the freshmen selected Brittany Doucett and Timmy Stevens. Congratulations to you all.

The junior members of the Greenport Fire Department would like to thank all the local merchants who supported their Basket of Prevention raffle, as well as all those who purchased tickets. The basket was won by George Hubbard. Mary Staples won the second drawing.

Senior Night at the Dorrie Jackson Memorial Field is Monday, Oct. 24, and it’s a double-header, but it won’t involve football! The boys’ varsity soccer team will host Port Jeff at 4:30 p.m. At 7 p.m. The varsity field hockey team will host Hampton Bays. Come on out, support our athletes and say a little thank you to the seniors who have represented Greenport so well for the past four years.

The Perry Day Care Center will hold a fundraising scavenger hunt on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 3-6 p.m. It will begin and end at the barn at One Woman Vineyard in Southold. Tickets are $15 per person. Prizes will be awarded and pizza, drinks and dessert will be served following the hunt. Call 477-2931.

A reminder for parents of teens and pre-teens about the presentation and discussion on teenage drinking and the social host law, to be held 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, in room 312 at GHS. This event is open to all North Fork parents. Presenters are Kym Laube of H.U.G.S. and Sgt. Kerry Laube of the Westhampton Police Department.
Ladies from far and wide will don their shin guards and mouthpieces to take part in the alumni field hockey game this Saturday, Oct. 22, at 1 p,m. at GHS. There’s still time to sign up. If you’re interested, contact Jade at [email protected].
