Southold-Peconic: Southold High School cheerleaders to host fundraiser Oct. 30

Fall is a time for gathering with family friends for delicious meals made from the bounty of our area. A large crowd did just that at the annual Baymen’s Association lobster bake last Saturday evening at Founders Landing. Southold Fish Market did an amazing job with the food, and the staff of volunteers who helped serve, set up and clean up worked hard to ensure that everyone enjoyed their dinner. It was a night of fun to support the local baymen.

Belated happy birthday to Tim Winters, who celebrated at the baymen’s dinner on the 15th. This week, Michelle Surozenski cuts her cake on the 20th. On Oct. 21, my brother Kevin Elak will spend his 40th birthday at Disney World with his family, and Helen Prince, former Southolder and longtime elementary school teacher, will turn 100 years old. Ajsia Martocchia also has her special day on the 21st, and Don Fisher celebrates on the 22nd.

Congratulations to Brianne (Metz) and T.J. Hart who were married Oct. 1 at Salt Air Farm in Cutchogue. All the best to the newlyweds in their married life.

Support the Southold High School cheerleaders and have some family fun on Sunday, Oct. 30, when they host a fundraiser at Krupski’s Haunted Corn Maze in Peconic. Tickets are $5 per child; an accompanying parent is admitted free. Children can attend from 5-6 p.m.; older students are invited from 6-8 p.m. See any cheerleader for tickets or purchase them at the maze.

It’s still a few weeks away, but you’re advised to get your tickets soon for the Veterans Day chicken dinner and dance to be hosted Friday, Nov. 11, by the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 803 in Southold. There will be music by Sahara and a cash bar. Tickets are $15 and must be purchased in advance by calling Dot Charnews at 734-7478 or Dianne King at 298-4719.

Auxiliary members are also selling raffle tickets to benefit veterans homes on Long Island and our troops overseas. First prize is $1,000, second prize is $500 and third prize is 50 gallons of fuel oil. Local merchants have generously donated many gift baskets filled with goodies. Support the veterans and contact an auxiliary member for raffle tickets.

Start gearing up for the Southold Athletic Association’s second annual 5K Fun Run on Saturday, Nov. 5. This year, the PTA will sponsor a health and wellness fair right after the race. Local vendors and organizations will be there and interactive booths featuring Zumba, yoga and hula-hooping will be featured for families to enjoy. Save the date.
