Three weeks of nighttime Route 25 road work will begin in Riverhead tonight, Monday, and drivers are advised to take alternative routes as the westbound lane will be closed, New York State Department of Transportation announced today.

The work will take place on East Main Street between Howell Avenue and Raynor Avenue between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. It will continue Sundays through Thursdays for the next three weeks weather permitting, according to a press release issued by the DOT.

No street parking will be permitted during the construction work. Westbound traffic will be detoured to Route 58 and eastbound Main Street traffic will be allowed to pass through the construction area.

The work is part of a five-mile long, $4.5 million resurfacing and drainage project. The top layer of asphalt is being removed and replaced with new pavement.

“When completed, these pavement repairs and drainage improvements will help prolong the integrity of the road,” the press release states.
