Featured Events: Local history buffs talk about the Civil War

The Mattituck-Laurel Library will show “Great Lectures: The Civil War Series” tonight.

Local history buffs Richard Radoccia and Doris McGreevy will also hold a discussion about the Civil War.

“It’s to provide a forum where folks can come together and share their thoughts,” said library director Kay Zegel. “It’s important to be able to provide awareness of these historical events.”

Ms. Zegel said Civil War memorabilia, including a rifle owned by the Mattituck Historical Society, will also be featured.

The free event, located at 13900 Main Road in Mattituck, starts at 6:30 p.m. and includes refreshments. Future sessions are scheduled for Nov. 16 and Dec. 21. For more information, call (631) 298-4134.

Book Sale, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Mattituck-Laurel Library located at 13900 Main Road in Mattituck. The event is hosted by Friends of the Library and will be held on the lower level of the building. Cats, Rats & Bats – Oh My!, for ages 3 to 8 featuring a stories, crafts and snacks. The event starts at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Library located at 27550 Main Road in Cutchogue. To register, call (631) 734-6360.

‘Charles Henry Miller: Painter of Long Island,’ lecture by Ruth Ann Bramson, 8 p.m. in auditorium at Peconic Landing, 1500 Brecknock Road, Greenport. Hosted by Southold Historical Society. One of Long Island’s best known artists, Charles Henry Miller sketched and painted in nearly every corner and hamlet of his adopted home. Bramson, the artist’s great-granddaughter, will discuss his life and works. For more information, call (631) 765-5500.
