Playoff brackets unveiled for soccer, field hockey

Section XI released the playoff brackets for boys and girls soccer as well as field hockey Friday afternoon.

Here are the matchups for local teams. Complete brackets can be found at the Section XI website.

BOYS SOCCER, CLASS B

Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2:30 p.m.

No. 1 Southampton

vs.

No. 4 Mattituck

The Mattituck boys face a difficult challenge against undefeated Southampton. The Tuckers finished the season 6-5-1 in League VII and 9-6-1 overall. Southampton, meanwhile, was 12-0 in league and 15-0-1 overall.

Southampton won both games in the regular season against Mattituck, 2-1 Sept. 21 and 3-1 Oct. 15.

BOYS SOCCER, CLASS C

Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2:30 p.m.

No. 3 Southold

vs.

No. 2 Greenport/Shelter Island

A match-up of two locals assures at least one team will play for a county championship. Greenport finished with a 7-3-2 record in League VIII and 7-7-2 overall. Southold was 6-4-2 in league and 8-6-2 overall.

The teams played twice and both were very close games. They played to a 1-1 draw Sept. 21 and Greenport won 1-0 Oct. 15. The winner plays either Port Jefferson or Pierson for the county title.

GIRLS SOCCER, CLASS B

Monday, Nov. 7, 5 p.m. (Diamond in the Pines)

No. 1 Center Moriches

vs.

No. 2 Mattituck

A rematch of last year’s county final. Mattituck and Center Moriches know each other very well at this point. The Tuckers, with a game still to be played today, are 6-6-1 in League VII. Center Moriches won the league at 9-0-4.

The teams played each other last Saturday and Center Moriches won 1-0. The first meeting ended in a scoreless draw.

FIELD HOCKEY, CLASS B

Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2:30 p.m.

No. 7 Greenport/Southold/Shelter Island

vs.

No. 2 Harborfields

Hey, look who’s in the playoffs! Greenport compiled one of its best seasons in a long time by going 9-5 in Division III and 10-6 overall to earn a spot into the Class B playoffs. The Clippers will take on a Harborfields team that went 7-7 in Division I and 9-7 overall. Greenport closed out the regular season having won three of its final four games.
