An Aquebogue woman who forced a police car off the road before hitting a tree in Cutchogue Tuesday morning was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, according to police reports.

Southold police said that Charlene Sequen, 52, was driving a 1996 Buick east on Route 25 just after 9:30 a.m. when she swerved into the westbound lane and into the path of a police car, forcing it to the side of the road.

The officer turned the police car around and attempted to stop Ms. Sequen, but she continued driving at a high rate of speed and in a highly erratic manner and failed to stop, according to police.

Ms. Sequen then lost control of her car, police said, running it off the road, where it overturned and struck a tree.

After being airlifted to the hospital, Ms. Sequen was issued appearance tickets for driving under the influence of drugs, failure to comply, speeding, reckless driving and other traffic violations.

She was ordered to return to court at a later date.
