Blotter: Woman stole iPhone from Mattituck store

After a Mattituck business reported on Oct. 14 that an Apple iPhone was stolen from the store, a police investigation revealed that Jacqueleen M. Rosa, 25, of Mattituck was in possession of the missing phone, according to police reports.

Police said Ms. Rosa turned herself in to police and was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, fifth degree.

She was released on bail and ordered to appear in court at a later date.

• Four residents of Route 25 in Cutchogue reported on Oct. 10 that between 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. that day someone broke into their home and stole a red metal cookie box containing $150 cash, two laptops, two 14 karat gold necklaces, a Sony Cybershot camera and a Sony camcorder. Police said that both the front and rear doors of the house had been unlocked all day.

• A resident of Route 25 in Peconic reported on Oct. 11 that, between 6:45 a.m. and 9:15 p.m. someone stole $2,200 cash, an 18 karat gold chain with a cross, a 14 karat gold ring with a diamond and an 18 karat gold men’s wedding ring. Police said the thief had likely entered the house through an unlocked window.

• A Greenport bicyclist was hit by a car and taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital just before 3 p.m. on Oct. 11. Police said 19-year-old Rudy Perez was cycling on the sidewalk on Main Street when he attempted to cross the street at Monsell Place and was hit by a car driven by Thomas Murray, 57, of Greenport. Mr. Perez reportedly told police he did not see Mr. Murray’s car before he attempted to cross the street.

• A red, white and black Giant bicycle was reported stolen from the porch of a residence on First Street in Greenport between 9 p.m. Oct. 10 and 8 a.m. Oct. 11.

• A Southold man who left his unlocked van on Third Street in Greenport from noon to 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 returned to find his laptop stolen, according to police reports.

• A Main Street, Greenport, woman reported on Oct. 12 that someone stole two plastic patio chairs and damaged her barbecue grill.

• A Cutchogue convenience store reported that someone stole a glass donation container containing about $100 from the counter between 4 and 8:15 a.m. on Oct. 15.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
