Cutchogue-New Suffolk: East End Lions Club to host annual holiday fashion show Nov. 3

Krupski’s, Wickham’s and Wesnofske’s may grow some of the finest pumpkins, corn, and potatoes, but our community — from Riverhead to Orient — grows some of the finest young men and women!

Master Sgt. David Wilburn Jr. — son of Sharon Burden of Cutchogue, father of Jesse Wilburn of Utah and brother of Michael, of Mattituck, and Bradley, of East Northport — has received the Order of Military Medical Merit award, which is the highest award available to Army medical personnel. According to his family, “His commitment to excellence as a medical emissary is evidenced by his ability to train, develop, mentor and lead soldiers on the modern battlefield with conviction and expertise.” Congratulations and God bless!

Brad and Denise Damiani of Cutchogue are proud to announce that their son Pfc. Brandon Damiani, graduated from the Marine Corps recruit depot on Parris Island, S.C. He will report to Camp Geiger in North Carolina for training in security forces. Congratulations and Godspeed!

Times may be tough, but with help from the Friends and the community, Cutchogue New Suffolk Library continues to grow and flourish! Book sale chairwoman Rose Ann Burns presented a check for $4,350 to director Neely McCahey and young adult librarian Bonnie Mazzaferro. As a result of this generous contribution, there will be “fantastic changes” in the Teen Central section of the library. This donation is also responsible for the Kindles that are now available to borrow.

The East End Lions Club’s ninth annual Holiday Fashion Show and raffle will be held at Giorgio’s in Baiting Hollow on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 5 p.m. Proceeds benefit folks in need and scholarships for local students. For tickets, contact Judy Wurtz (734-7328) or Sharon Vogel (298-4012).

Enjoy a homemade scallop dinner on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Cutchogue United Methodist Church. There are sittings at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. and takeout will be available. Walk-ins welcome. Tickets are $21 for adults; $9 for children. Call 734-6650.

The Harbes family and Harbes Family Farm staff extend their gratitude to “Aunt Laurie” — Laurie Melton — for traveling all the way from Sherrills Ford, N.C., to help her sister, Monica, and family on their farms. Your smile has been an inspiration to all!

Kindles are now compatible with the live-brary.com free download site. Check it out!
