Featured Events: Brush up on your knitting skills at Mattituck-Laurel Library

JENNIFER GUSTAVSON FILE PHOTO | A knitting and crocheting group called the "Yarn Throwers" will meet Monday night at the Mattituck-Laurel Library in Mattituck. The event is open to all local residents.

Are you ready to pick-up those knitting needles again? Then grab your tools and head over to the “Yarn Throwers” weekly meeting Monday night at the Mattituck-Laurel Library.

Nora Libretto, the group’s organizer, said local knitters and crocheters have been making scarfs, sweaters and blankets at the library in Mattituck since the summer.

“It’s an opportunity to sit with other people to knit,” she said. “We would love to have more people join us.”

While participants help each other out with different patterns and techniques, Ms. Libretto stressed the group isn’t for newbies.

“None of us are teachers,” she said, adding beginners should take a formal class at a local yarn store to learn knitting basics.

Those who have a basic understanding of the fundamentals are welcome to the Yarn Throwers meetings, which happen every Monday night at 6 p.m.
