Jay Throne

Jay Throne of New Suffolk died Sept. 30 at the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook. He was 80.

He was born Gaetano Thomas Perrone on June 22, 1931, in Brooklyn and attended Boy’s High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, then returned and worked in radio in Arizona. He moved to New York to study at the American Theater Wing, acted on Broadway and managed a summer stock company.

He married actress Barbara Barkley in 1960 and moved to Miller Place in 1966. Mr. Throne held several executive positions in the early days of the computer industry and had his own graphic design business for many years.

He moved to New Suffolk in 1987, pronounced it “paradise” and stayed for the rest of his life with his partner, Michele Chaussabel. He worked as an artist and painted many local scenes, including the Wednesday night sailboat races, the Greenport Maritime Festival, vineyards, libraries and churches.

Mr. Throne also produced many shows for the Public Access Channel on Cablevision. He directed a political show with Mike Maher of Cutchogue and a philosophical show with Michael Simon of New Suffolk.

He is survived by his children, Guy Perrone of Wading River and Analisa Bosch of Stony Brook; and four grandchildren, Courtney and Olivia Perrone and Caroline and Cameron Bosch.

A private graveside service was held Oct. 7 at Calverton National Cemetery, where interment will follow.
