Southold-Peconic: Elisa Trigg a finalist in McDonald’s singing competition

The Southold PTA will sponsor a Halloween parade this Sunday, Oct. 30, starting at the firehouse at noon and ending at the elementary school, where the marchers are invited to enjoy refreshments and crafts.

Also on the 30th, Southold’s varsity cheerleaders host a fundraiser at Krupski’s Haunted Corn Maze. Elementary students are invited from 5 to 6 p.m. and older students from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 per student, and one accompanying parent is admitted free. Purchase tickets at the event or from any cheerleader.

Elisa Trigg, daughter of Cheryl and Peter Castiglione of Peconic, is a finalist in the “Voice of McDonald’s” singing competition for the company’s employees worldwide. Elisa is a manager of the Glen Cove McDonald’s and is one of 22 contestants representing the Metro Long Island area. If she lands among the top three finalists, she’ll donate $1,000 to Ronald McDonald House and purchase an elevator for her church in Baldwin. She could also win an all-expense paid trip to Orlando in April for the chance to win the top prize of $25,000. Belated anniversary wishes to Steve Bertschi and Virginia Gilmore, who toasted 19 years together on Oct. 10.

Happy birthday to Billy Zebroski on Oct. 27, George Faeth on the 28th, Sharon Marschean on the 30th, Virginia Gilmore on the 31st and both Mike Carver and Russ Karsten on Nov. 1.

A baby shower was held for Christina Quarty last Sunday at Poquatuck Hall in Orient. She and her husband, Kevin, received many adorable gifts for their first child, a boy, due to arrive in December.

Chris Klipstein took home the Longaberger muffin basket donated by Melissa DeSimone in the latest Friends raffle. November’s winners will each receive a stained glass kaleidoscope crafted here in Southold by artist Robert Hamill. Two names will be selected in the Nov. 14 drawing.

Did anyone do any stargazing last weekend? If you did, you were treated to the Orionid meteor shower, which peaked before sunrise on Saturday. The cool, clear evenings we’ve been having are perfect for observing the night sky.

The documentary film “Race to Nowhere” will be presented on Thursday, Oct. 27, in the district auditorium at 6:30 p.m. The program will focus on the pressures students face. All are invited.
