If you want to see school Superintendent Mike Comanda glow, just ask him how the auditorium is coming along. A smile comes across his face as he explains all the renovations that have been done. I’m not going to reveal everything going on there, but you can see for yourself at the grand re-opening Monday, Dec. 5, for the elementary school holiday concert at 7 p.m. You won’t believe your eyes!
You still have a few days to take advantage of the Friends of the Floyd Memorial Library Thanksgiving gift basket raffle. The basket is on display at the library. Chances are $1 each and the winner will be chosen Sunday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. Proceeds support library programs.
The Christmas tree is up in the school’s main lobby, just waiting for its Angels to appear, which they will do on Friday, Nov. 18. The tree is there to help families with students in Greenport School for the Christmas holiday, so if you can help by taking an Angel from the tree and providing a wrapped gift, please stop by. Angels are due in the school’s main office by Dec. 16. Please be sure to attach the Angel to each gift. Gift certificates to local grocery stores are also welcome donations. Call school social worker Jillian Ruroede at 477-1950, ext 220, with any questions.
Someone in East Hampton, Conn., (no names mentioned) should be afraid — very afraid. They facetiously told me they were thinking of canceling their Suffolk Times subscription because in 48 years their birthday has never been mentioned in print. Well it will be this year. Remember the old adage, “The pen is mightier than the sword” — Bill Rempe?
A reminder for parents that students will be released from school early on Tuesday, Nov. 22, for the Thanksgiving holiday. High school students will be dismissed at 10:52 a.m. and elementary students at 11:45. Please plan accordingly.

Jim and I took advantage of my shortened work week last week to spend time with my daughter, son-in-law and grandson, Jenn, Dan and Jamey. If I’d known that grandparenting would be so absolutely wonderful, I think I would have had grandchildren first!
I have an early deadline — Friday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m. — for next week’s column, so get in touch ASAP if you have news to share.
