Former Greenport resident Charles Hepburn died Nov. 25 in Miami, Fla. He was 96.
He was born on Andros Island, Bahamas, March 30, 1915, to Gertrude and Marie Hepburn.
For many years he was caretaker at the Browning estate on Shelter Island. In 1975 he moved to Miami, where he worked at the Cadillac Hotel.
Mr. Hepburn is survived by his wife, Earline (Shelby) of Greenport; his children, Christine Shelby and Chase Shelby, both of Greenport, and Mary Shelby of Central Islip; eight stepchildren; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Darlene Shelby.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 to 11 a.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold and will be immediately followed by services conducted by Minister James Smiley. Interment will be at the Presbyterian cemetery in Southold.
