Irene Jackowski of Mattituck, N.Y., met the arms of the angels on Oct. 30, 2011, at the age of 74.

Irene was born in Riverhead, N.Y., and raised in Mattituck by her parents, Stanley and Josephine Zimnoski. She had two sisters, Ceil Raynor and Stacia Childs, who predeceased her.

She was married May 17, 1958, to William Jackowski of Mattituck, and they were together for 53 years.

After graduating high school, Irene went on to work in a law firm as a secretary for several years. She then put her career on hold to raise a family. Her abilities and intelligence brought her forward in life as she climbed the corporate ladder that led her to banking, from which she retired as an assistant vice president.

Irene’s main enjoyments in life were being a wife and mother to her husband and children. Two of Irene’s sons, Billy and Jimmy, predeceased her. She is survived by her husband, William; her son, Michael, and his wife, Janet; her granddaughter, Maya; and her daughter, Sandi, and her love, Jimmy.

Irene was a strong-willed and determined individual. She was a survivor of lung cancer, an avid animal lover, a hometown supporter and was always charitable, especially when it came to children.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home, 13805 Main Road, Mattituck, NY 11952.
