Mattituck-Laurel: Mattituck Athletic Booster Club to host Texas Hold ’em Tournament Nov. 5

With the wintry mix of wind, rain and snow this past weekend, it’s fitting that we begin the month of November and start our preparations for the upcoming holiday season. 52 days before Christmas? Yikes!

Election Day is Tuesday. Exercise your right to vote and have your voice heard.

The clocks ‘fall back’ this weekend and the Mattituck and Cutchogue fire departments remind everyone that when you adjust your clocks, don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. These are lifesavers!

The Mattituck-Cutchogue Teachers Association is sponsoring its sixth annual Turkey Trot 5K this year. This event has become a true community and family affair, with many people running/walking this race before indulging in a Thanksgiving feast. Registration forms are available at and must be received by Nov. 17. Why not make this one of your family traditions?

Nick Testler of Mattituck will perform Nov. 17-19 with the Misericordia (University) Players Theater in its production of “The Tempest,” a modern twist on Shakespeare’s original to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the play’s debut. Break a leg!

Toasting their years as husband and wife this week are Lee and Dick Harned on Nov. 3, Maureen and Nick Deegan on the 6th and Jackie and Bill Wilsberg on the 7th. Happy anniversary!

Belated birthday wishes go out this week to Madison Hansen, who turned 8 on Oct. 30.

Celebrating birthdays this week are Shannan Maida and Megan Cushman on the 3rd; Alexandra Pape and Meghan Ross on the 4th; Jacqueline Maloney on the 5th; Tara Gatz and Mary Lou Araneo on the 6th; and Jason Wesnofske on the 8th.

Who pushed Humpty Dumpty off the wall? Cutchogue East sixth-graders will visit Mattituck Junior High on Nov. 15 to find the answer and see a matinee performance of the junior high play, “Law and Order; Nursery Rhyme Unit.” This is a dress rehearsal for the evening performances on Nov. 17 and 18, when admission will be $6 or a nonperishable food item for the high school food drive. This is a comedy filled with nursery rhyme characters and lots of puns. Come enjoy an evening of laughter and applaud our young people’s efforts.

This Saturday night is the Mattituck Athletic Booster Club’s Texas Hold ’em Tournament. For information and tickets call 445-5526. The entry fee of $100 includes the tournament play, buffet, beer, wine and soda. There will also be a cash bar.
