Slide Show: Ribbon cutting of restored auditorium set for tonight at Greenport School

Greenport School District officials will host a ribbon cutting ceremony tonight to unveil the newly restored auditorium.

Superintendent Michael Comanda said the nearly $557,000 project on the circa 1932 facility involved replacing the roof and repairing the leaky ceiling, as well as replacing portions of the stage that buckled due to water damage. All 625 seats are back to their original luster and eight handicap-accessible seats and some new lighting were added.

“It’s amazing,” Mr. Comanda said about the finished project. “We didn’t add much. We just fixed it up back to its 1932 grandeur.”

Following the 7 p.m. ribbon cutting will be the Elementary Winter Concert.
