‘Henrietta Holstein’ the winner in contest to name calf

Our readers have spoken and the Holstein heifer calf born at Goodale Farms Nov. 26 will go by the name Henrietta Holstein.

The name was chosen from over 300 candidates in a contest to name the latest addition to the Aquebogue farm. Many of the submissions came from readers of The Suffolk Times and News-Review websites.

Names like Milkshake, Moo Moo, Honey Beau Vine, Daisy, Kyla and Clover were considered. Other names selected as finalists included Angel, AnnaBelle, Darla, Elsie, Gertie, Ophelia and Stosha.

Goodale Farms co-owner Hal Goodale III said other “good names” like Oreo and Bella had to be eliminated since he didn’t want “to duplicate any names that are already used for other animals on the farm.”

A nickname will also be found for the calf, who was born weighing 82 lbs. 6 oz. to mom Lila, once her personality can be ascertained, Mr. Goodale said.
