Ten more days until we gather together to celebrate Christmas! I hope you find time during the next week or so to catch up with old friends and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the season. Shop locally and support our businesses that are there for us all year long.
A great way to take a breather and enjoy the sounds of the season is attending one of the Mattituck High School winter concerts. Junior high students perform Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 7:30 p.m. and the high school concert is the following evening. The music our young people provide is always inspirational and entertaining and a perfect way to reflect on the true meaning of the season. Both concerts are in the high school auditorium.
Speaking of music, James Finora’s parents and siblings wish to congratulate him on being chosen first chair baritone horn in the NYSSMA All State Band in Rochester, N.Y.
Belated birthday wishes go out this week to Allison Kraebel, Corey Best and Caroline Keil, who cut their cakes on Dec. 14.
Others celebrating birthdays during this joyous season are Candy Ulmet, Deb Cahill, Ed McDonald and Myles Caracciolo on the 15th; Julie Peterson on the 16th; Geoff Schroeder, Monica Malcolmson, James Cook and Jay Strong on the 18th; and Christopher Cushman, Mary Grace Finora and Bella Cahill on the 19th.
Why not help a dog or cat stay warm this winter season? The Southold Town Animal Shelter on Peconic Lane is accepting donations of light blankets, sheets and towels to comfort our furry friends.
Congratulations to Vasso Patrikis on becoming a great-grandmother. Her granddaughter Vicki gave birth to a son, Arthur John, on Nov. 26. Vasso is also getting ready to celebrate her 77th birthday on Dec. 22. She’s worked in the elementary school in Laurel and now at Cutchogue East for the past 17 years.
Still not sure what to get for that person who has everything? The Mattituck Athletic Booster Club reminds you that a brick for the alumni garden makes a great gift for anyone. Bricks are also being accepted now as memorials or from retired or current faculty. Call 445-5526 for details. Order forms can be picked up at the high school or at Cutchogue East.
The Dec. 22 issue will be my last column of 2011, and another won’t appear until Jan. 12, 2012. If you have any news or important dates to announce before that, forward them to me as soon as possible so I can include them next week.
