Deirdre Connolly Posteraro

Deirdre Connolly Posteraro, known as “Dee” to all who knew her and resident of Mattituck for over 40 years, unexpectedly passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011.

Dee was born Sept. 26, 1938, in Dublin, Ireland, to Augustine and Elizabeth Connolly. At the age of 17, Dee made her journey to the United States and adjusted quickly to her new home. Soon thereafter, Dee met and married the love of her life, James “Jack” Posteraro. They were happily married from July 1, 1961, until his death in 1998.

Dee was a devoted wife and mother, opening her heart and home to many children throughout the early years of their marriage. Dee’s life revolved around her family. When her children started to grow, Dee found her niche in the workforce as a certified teacher’s aide to special needs children in the Mattituck-Cutchogue School District. Dee met and formed special bonds with many children from 1986 until her retirement in 2000.

After her retirement, Dee had a zest for life, making time to travel, work in her yard, cheer on her beloved Mets, and always made time to help her friends. Dee faithfully attended Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church every Saturday evening.

Dee is survived by her children, Jay Posteraro of San Diego, Calif., John Posteraro of Hoboken, N.J., and Alisha Posteraro Stow of Anderson, Texas; and five grandchildren, one of whom is serving in the United States Air Force. Additionally, Dee is survived by siblings George Connolly and Valerie Wallace of Ireland and Patricia Casey of Canada.

A funeral Mass was held Friday, Dec. 9, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Mattituck. Interment followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue. Arrangements were entrusted to Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue.

Dee’s family greatly appreciates all the love and support they have received from family and friends.
