Blotter: Car thieves on the prowl in Mattituck

A thief was on the prowl in Mattituck Saturday night.

Numerous residents on Donna Drive, Woodcliff Drive and Westview Drive reported Sunday morning that their vehicles been entered or had items stolen from inside them sometime the previous evening.

Two pairs of binoculars, a laptop, a credit card, CDs, $20 in coins and a purse containing credit cards and $350 cash were reported taken from six separate vehicles on Woodcliff Drive.

A GPS, a pair of binoculars, an iPod and a credit card were reported stolen from three cars on Donna Drive and three other cars on Donna Drive were reportedly rifled.

A credit card stolen from one of those cars was reportedly used for $113 worth of charges before the owner noticed it was missing.

One Westview Drive resident’s car was reportedly rifled.

• A Route 25, East Marion, resident reported a Bose stereo and a MacBook were stolen from her house when she left her door unlocked while she was away between Dec. 1 and Dec. 4.

• A Cutchogue woman reported her purse was stolen from her car while she was shopping at King Kullen in Cutchogue at about 3 p.m. Dec. 11.

• Eleanor Branch Roper, 56, of Cutchogue was charged with driving while intoxicated on Mill Lane in Mattituck just after 9:30 p.m. Dec. 14.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
