Greenport: Bus trip to see New York Knicks Dec. 18
Can you believe it? Ten more days until the arrival of Santa Claus, one more column to write and 2011 will be history. Either I’m having an extreme amount of fun or life is hectic because time sure is flying by!
The Greenport Methodist Church Thrift Shop will hold a half-price sale on everything in stock on Saturday, Dec. 17, and Thursday, Dec. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days. There’s something for everyone; be sure to stop by.
The YES program is hosting a bus trip to Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Dec. 18, to see the New York Knicks pre-game opener. The coach bus will leave Greenport at 8 a.m. and return by 4 p.m. The cost is $40 per person, all inclusive. All children who attend with the YES program will have a chance to do a meet and greet. To help offset the cost of his Eagle Scout project, Troop 51’s Jacob Thorp will host a buffet breakfast at Poquatuck Hall in Orient on New Year’s Day from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under; kids 4 and under are free. Get your tickets at the door or in advance by calling 477-6382. Jake’s project is to replace the deck and handicapped ramp at Poquatuck Hall.
There’s still time to sign up if you’d like to learn another language through the Rosetta Stone program. Arranged by Carolyn Burke, the program offers Greenport, Orient and East Marion residents courses in any language taught by Rosetta Stone for $109 per person starting early in 2012 and continuing for one year. Last week I told you what good sports Greenport High School’s student athletes are. Now let me tell you how smart they are! The GHS varsity field hockey, football, golf and volleyball teams all received the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Scholar Athlete Team Award. To do so, team members must have a collective scholastic average of 90 or better. Congratulations to all on a job well done.
