The Oysterponds School District has announced the dates of four community forums aimed at giving residents a chance to weigh in before the Board of Education makes a decision on its next secondary school contract.

In April, the district is expected to announce where it will send its students for junior and senior high school once its existing arrangement with the Greenport district ends after this school year.

“The purpose of these meetings is to get a sense from both parents and the community about what their vision is,” said Superintendent Joan Frisicano. “It will help us plan for the immediate future.”

The district is now sending letters asking parents of children in Oysterponds and the Greenport schools to sign up for one of the roundtable discussions. These are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 7, at 10 a.m.; Monday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m. The location of the meetings has not yet been determined.

The Board of Education is now scheduling additional forums for community residents with no school-age children.

Ms. Frisicano said that in addition to discussing which school district Oysterponds should sign on with, the forums will focus on enhancing Oysterponds students’ overall school experience from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The board has until April 1 to vote on its secondary school contract.
