Paul M. Cavanagh

Paul M. Cavanagh of Southold died Dec. 5, 2011. He was 77.

He was born in New York on Aug. 8, 1934, to Hiram and Marion (Halpin) Cavanagh.

Formerly of North Babylon, he was a civil engineer with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for nearly 30 years.

According to family members, he enjoyed the library and reading, walking and smoking cigars. He had been a fan of the New York Giants baseball team and Willie Mays, they said.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth (née Cliggett); three children, Cathy Reilly of Southold, Michael, of Rye, N.Y., and Kevin, of Nanuet, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a granddaughter.

Family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be delivered the same day at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold by Father Peter Garry.
