Joseph Daniel Verity

Lifelong Greenport resident Joseph Daniel Verity died Dec. 25, 2011, at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. He was 61.

He was born Dec. 31, 1949, at Eastern Long Island Hospital to Jarvis and Katherine (Kujawski) Verity and was a 1968 graduate of Greenport High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1972 and married Eileen Turner on Feb. 9, 1974, at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport.

Mr. Verity was the owner/operator of The Crafts Farm in Greenport and belonged to Burton Potter American Legion Post 185.

Family members said he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, bird watching, drawing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Verity is survived by his wife; his daughters, Shannon Fisher and Brianne Manwaring, and son, Matthew, all of Greenport; his siblings, Jean Cossobaume of Houston, Texas, and Marcy Anne Bruck of Logansport, Ind; and four grandchildren.

Visiting hours took place Dec. 28 at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport, and a service was held Dec. 29 at St. Agnes R.C. Church, Father Thomas P. Murray officiating. Interment was at East Marion Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Burton Potter American Legion Post 185 or the Greenport Fire Department Rescue Squad.
