Agnes Lindsay

Agnes Lindsay of Mattituck died at Eastern Long Island Hospital on Jan. 15, 2012. She was 89 years old.

Born in Riverhead on Aug. 1, 1922, to Nicholas and Magdalene (Yatzyshyn) Chudiak, she attended school in Mattituck, where she was drum major for the Mattituck High School band and a graduate of the Class of 1940.

On Aug. 14, 1943, she married Lloyd W. Lindsay at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Riverhead, and together they made their home in Mattituck. Years ago, she worked at Bob n Net Dress Shop and Southold Savings Bank and later co-owned the Mattituck Movie Theatre and Sweet Shoppe with her husband, Lloyd.

In her free time, she enjoyed decorating Ukrainian Easter eggs, which she shared with her family, and loved visiting her friends at the nutrition center in Mattituck.

Predeceased on March 8, 1974, by her husband, Lloyd W. Lindsay, a Coast Guard veteran who served during World War II, she leaves her sons, Peter (Deborah) Lindsay of Mattituck and William (Regina) Lindsay of Rochester, Mich.; and a sister, Vera (William) Smith of Mattituck. She was deeply loved by her four grandchildren, Taylor Lindsay, Danielle Lindsay, Sam Pillsbury and Timothy Pillsbury; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Emma, Lily and Nicholas. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings William Chudiak of Mattituck, Anne McConnell of Brentwood and Margaret Stevens of Montauk.

The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 20, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck, where funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. by Father Peter Garry. Interment will be private at Cutchogue Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Fork Animal Welfare League or East End Hospice would be appreciated.
