Greenport: Valentine’s dance for grades pre-K through six Feb. 11

One of the benefits of working at a school with combined sports is that you get to meet terrific kids from other schools. Dan Letteriello of Mattituck is one such person. Dan, a former quarterback on the Porters football team, is spearheading a campaign to raise money so his college team at Westfield (Mass.) State University can buy apparel to make them look their best when they arrive at road games. All donations are welcome. Mail checks payable to Westfield State Football to the Westfield State Football Office, Woodward Center, 577 Western Ave., Westfield, MA 01085.

Fifty people attended Sunday’s Family Scrabble Festival at Congregation Tifereth Israel. Top overall score winners were Lucille Purcell of Riverhead, James Payne of Norwood, Mass., and Ruth Eilenberg of Southold. Top single-turn score winners were Emily Halligan, Richard Cirincicione and Jesse Elliot. Neville Reece of East Marion was the youth division winner.

Greenport, Southold and Mattituck students who will attend the NJROTC Military Ball are invited to a dress boutique in the NJROTC room at Greenport on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. Call Jillian Ruroede with questions, 477-1950, ext 220. Jillian is also collecting slightly used formal and semiformal dresses for the prom boutique. They can be dropped off at the school Guidance Office.

A Valentine’s dance for grades pre-K (SCOPE) through six will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the school’s small gym. Admission is free; raffle tickets for prizes will be sold for $2 each. Be sure to dress in your party best. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This is a PTA fundraiser to support class trips. To help make this a fun and successful event, the PTA is also asking for donations from the community at large.
