Boys Basketball: Charters’ 20 paces Porters past Smithtown Christian


Forward Sean Charters scored 13 of his 20 points in the second half to help Greenport record a 65-44 victory over Smithtown Christian in a Suffolk County League VIII boys basketball game on Tuesday night.

Charters converted four three-point shots, including three in the second half, when the visiting Porters (4-3, 3-1) pulled away from a 26-20 halftime lead. Greenport outscored Smithtown (0-5, 0-4) in the third quarter, 17-10.

Billy Doucett added 14 points, Gavin Dibble had 10 points and Matt Dibble 9 for Greenport.

Caelan McCabe led Smithtown Christian with 22 points and Charles Bellini contributed 11.

The Porters will host Pierson on Friday night.
