Cops: Routine Mattituck traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A Coram man was arrested by Southold Town Police last Thursday night after police stopped him for a traffic violation and found marijuana, prescription medications and potentially stolen items in his car, according to police reports.

Police said Thomas J. Hynes, 18, was driving on Route 25 in Mattituck just before 11:30 p.m., when he was pulled over by police.

Mr. Hynes was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Police said an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the items recovered is still underway.
