Jamesport FD wins approval of $375K truck
The Jamesport Fire District this week approved, by a vote of 49 to 7, the purchase of a new $375,000 pumper truck.
The vote was held at the Jamesport firehouse on Manor Lane, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The truck will replace a 28-year-old pumper, one of three in Jamesport’s fleet.
“It doesn’t have a great deal of value, maybe less than $5,000,” treasurer Paul Epperlein said of the old pumper. “We’ll either sell it or retain it as a parade vehicle. We’re still exploring, but it’s going to be taken off line.”
The district also has a rescue truck, a high tire government vehicle and a tanker.
Mr. Epperlein said the district spread word of the vote by legal notice.
“Now that we have gotten approval from the public, we’ll go have that fire engine built,” Mr. Epperlein said.
He said the pumper, which will meet the latest National Fire Protection Association standards, is to be built by Pierce Manufacturing in Oshkosh, Wis.
“We’ll begin the process of completing the specifications for the pumper and finalize the agreement with Pierce now,” Mr. Epperlein said.
