A. James deBruin

A. James deBruin (Jim), of Southold, N.Y., passed away on March 12, 2012, at 85.

Mr. deBruin was born in Bellerose, N.Y., on November 20, 1926. His career spanned over 50 years in surveying and civil engineering. In 1964, he started his own practice and developed an unparalleled reputation for integrity and quality. He was recognized as Engineer of the Year by the Nassau County Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers in 1975.

A lifelong athlete, Jim played two years of professional baseball, won golf championships at clubs in New York and Florida and shot his age several times. He was always up for a game of “shoes,” billiards, or pingpong.

Mr. deBruin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy; children, Greg (Elaine), Karen (Brian), Sue (Keith) and Bob (Lisa); 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
