Blotter: Greenport man arrested on active warrant

Kenneth MacAlpin, 47, of Greenport was arrested by town police just after midnight on March 16 on an active warrant from the Suffolk County Police Department, according to police.

Mr. MacAlpin had been sentenced in September 2010 to one year in Suffolk County jail on four charges of criminal contempt, six charges of aggravated harassment and four charges of harassment.

Mr. MacAlpin was taken to Southold police headquarters and held for the Suffolk County Warrant Squad.

No further information was available.

• David Miller, 62, of Brooklyn was charged with DWI at 6:30 p.m. on March 18, after he was stopped for failing to signal on South Street in Greenport, said police. He was held for a morning arraignment.

• Walter L. Brown, 28, of Bellport was arrested March 20 at 2 p.m. at the Suffolk County Police Fifth Precinct office in Patchogue on a Southold warrant for forcible touching. He was taken to Southold Police headquarters and held for arraignment.

• A resident of Champlin Place, Greenport, reported March 17 that nearly the entire exhaust system of her 1996 Jeep Cherokee was stolen while it was parked at the Greenport train station between Feb. 3 and Feb. 11. She reported the tailpipe, muffler, catalytic converter, head pipe, oxygen sensor and a tailpipe bracket were taken, though no other part of the car was damaged. The same resident reported on March 17 that someone stole the propane tank from her backyard barbecue grill sometime between March 3 and March 17.

• Three seasonal cottages on Breakwater Road in Mattituck were reportedly broken into this week. One homeowner, who lives in Massapequa, reported March 12 that someone broke open his door and stole a 19-inch flat screen television and a folding knife. Police later discovered a neighboring cottage had also been broken into, but could not immediately reach the homeowner. Another Breakwater Road property owner reported March 15 that while he was away for two weeks someone stole two Skilsaws, several screwdrivers and two pairs of channel lock pliers from a tool box he’d left at the site. Detectives are investigating all three incidents.

• A Southold resident who left a black Trek 2700 mountain bike chained to a bike rack at Feather Hill in Southold between March 13 and March 16 reported the bike stolen.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
