Cops: Greenport man caught buying 40 oz. malt beverage for 15-year-old

Howard K. Brooks of Greenport was charged with unlawfully dealing with a child just before 10 p.m. on March 3, after police observed him leaving a bag with a 40 oz. container of malt liquor on the sidewalk outside of Mr. Robert’s convenience store in Greenport.

A 15-year-old boy picked up the bag, placed it under his jacket and began to walk down Third Street, where he was stopped by police, who found Mr. Brooks, who admitted to taking money from the youth in order to buy alcohol.

Mr. Brooks was taken to headquarters and held for arraignment.
