The Oysterponds Board of Education will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

The board is expected to schedule a special meeting for April 2 to announce whether it will continue to send its junior and senior high school students to Greenport or seek an arrangement with another local district.

During a special meeting on March 2, the board voted 4-1 to appoint Ralph DeMarco, a lawyer with the White Plains-based law firm Keane and Bean, as legal council for the secondary school contract negotiations with a $225 per hour rate.

School board member Linda Goldsmith voted in opposition. Board vice president Dorothy-Dean Thomas and board member Thomas Gray were absent from the meeting.

School board president Deborah Dumont said the move was necessary because the district’s attorney, Warren Richmond, has a conflict of interest in the contract negations. Mr. Warren is now with Harris Beach, a law group that currently represents the Greenport School District.
