Southold Blotter: Greenport home broken into and trashed

• A resident of Bennett Road in Greenport reported on the evening of Feb. 21 that someone broke into his house, wrote on the walls and trashed the house sometime prior to 6 p.m. Police said the resident found the back door unlocked and the windows open when he returned home. Detectives are investigating.

• A Laurel resident who loaned a laptop to a friend who was in rehab told police on Feb. 22 that the friend had pawned the computer. It was later found at Rick’s Buy and Sell in Patchogue. The victim is pursuing charges.

• A resident of Washington Avenue in Greenport reported that his door frame was damaged when someone tried to break into the house while he was away between Feb. 3 and Feb. 19.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
