Cops: Man taken to hospital after crashing into telephone pole in Southold

One man was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital Tuesday morning after crashing into a telephone pole on Route 48 about 10 a.m., according to Southold Town Police on the scene.

The accident occurred on the north side of Route 48 across from Tucker’s Lane in Southold and closed down traffic on Route 48 temporarily, though the road was passable again by 11 a.m.

The telephone pole was broken in half by the accident and LIPA crews were on the scene repairing the damage at 11 a.m. Though no power outages were reported, police said to expect intermittent outages as the damage is repaired.

The driver, David Januzzi, 48, of Southold suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by the Southold Fire Department Ambulance Corps, said police.
