Cops: 89-year-old woman crashes car into pole in Cutchogue

An 89-year-old woman crashed her car into a utility pole on Main Road in Cutchogue Thursday afternoon, Southold Town Police officials said.

At about 3:30 p.m., Margaret Spicijaric of Southold was traveling alone in a silver 2002 Honda heading eastbound before crashing into a utility pole, officials said. Ms. Spicijaric was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, police said.

Although the extent of the elderly woman’s injuries weren’t immediately known, police said Ms. Spicijaric might have a heart condition and likely passed out prior to crashing. No other injuries were reported.

Traffic was being diverted but both lanes of traffic were moving as of 4:30 p.m., when a Long Island Power Authority crew arrived to fix the pole. No outages were reported, LIPA said.
